Lord Mayor accepts award for exchange and cooperation with China
Mayor Barbara Ludwig today accepted the "Prize for Exchange and Cooperation with China". The City of Chemnitz was honoured on 13 September at the International Friendship Cities Conference held in Chengdu, China, for its long-standing cooperation with its twin city Taiyuan. The prize, consisting of a certificate and a sculpture, was brought along by Frank Herrmann, Managing Director of the Chemnitz-based company IMK engineering GmbH. He was travelling to Taiyuan on business and intends to offer his engineering services there. Last year, IMK engineering GmbH was part of a delegation of Chemnitz business representatives led by Petra Wesseler, Mayor of Chemnitz for Construction and Urban Planning, who made contact with companies from the region during a trip to the Chinese twin city.
Taiyuan and Chemnitz have been twinned since 1999 and there is an intensive exchange of experience in the fields of business, medicine and social affairs. Sport also plays a major role in both cities. For example, marathon runners from the Chinese twin city took part in this year's 5th Chemnitz Marathon. Artists and craftspeople exhibited their Chinese folk art such as painting, calligraphy, paper cutting and dough modelling for the first time at the 2011 city festival. In September of this year, a medical delegation from the No 2 People's Hospital in Taiyuan visited Chemnitz (see press release 535). They signed a letter of intent for further cooperation with Chemnitz Hospital. Bethanienkrankenhaus, Senvital and HeimggmbH will also be involved in the partnership in future. A delegation from Chemnitz will therefore be travelling to Taiyuan next year to exchange ideas with Chinese colleagues.
