Lifting in the pedestrian bridge in the former Altchemnitz river baths

On Tuesday, 25 June, from 7 a.m., the new pedestrian bridge in the former Altchemnitz river baths will be lifted into place at the location of the former bridge. The bridge is an integral steel structure around 61 metres long and 2.5 metres wide. It is made up of three bridge segments. The third bridge element will be lifted into place at around 10 am.
Work may be delayed or interrupted due to weather conditions. If necessary, the lifting can also be postponed at short notice. (Information will be provided at short notice).
Please note that, for safety reasons, people may only stay outside the construction boundary or the crane working area.
The construction of the pedestrian bridge will re-establish a connection between the southern part of the city park and the residential structures east of the Chemnitz.
The area of the former Altchemnitz river baths is a central intervention area of the Capital of Culture project "Stadt am Fluss". A new leisure and recreation centre is being created there in compliance with nature conservation regulations.
In addition, various usable recreational areas are being created between Schulstraße and the city park. A dynamic and active sports centre will be created in the entrance area on Schulstrasse. In the area of the city park, on the other hand, individual seating elements and design accents reminiscent of the former river pool will invite people to linger and relax.
In addition to the pedestrian bridge, new pathways with different surfaces will also be created.
Background
The 30 intervention areas are the city of Chemnitz's urban development project for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 and are being created throughout the city.
The river bath in Altchemnitz is part of the "Stadt am Fluss" (City by the River) project, which aims to bring various watercourses in the city back to life.
