Kick-off with Richard Wagner - invitations to diverse encounters with history and stories in Chemnitz

In the new year, the people of Chemnitz can look forward to the history of their city of Chemnitz and the stories, treasures and treasures associated with it that are preserved in the city archive, as well as new encounters with historical events and personalities from the city's history: The kick-off under the motto "Schatztruhe Stadtarchiv" took place yesterday in the programme of the festive event on the occasion of the reopening of the city archive building (PM 8 from 07.01.2013), but a further and now public lecture evening will follow in January, which is scheduled for Wednesday, 16 January at 6 pm in the historic city archive building. The event will take place on Wednesday 16 January at 6 pm in the historic building at Aue 16 (near Falkeplatz) and will take interested guests on a tour of "Richard Wagner's footsteps in Chemnitz" - the occasion is the 200th anniversary of the famous composer's birth this year.

The City Archive team has prepared a total of nine lecture and discussion evenings for 2013 in the series "The City Archive invites you", two of which are again being organised in collaboration with the Chemnitz History Society. With a print run of 2,000 copies, the 2013 lecture programme of the Chemnitz City Archive is once again available as a compact flyer. The flyer is now available to take away free of charge from the information desk in the town hall at Markt 1.

City Archive Director Gabriele Viertel: "Last year, almost 500 guests with a particular interest in Chemnitz's city history accepted our invitation to the lecture evenings. We are delighted with this great response, especially in view of the construction and installation measures realised in 2012 and the associated restrictions for our regular users and visitors during the necessary closure of the main building. The City Archive team would also like to take this opportunity to thank Jugendherberge eins and Volksbank Chemnitz once again for being our friendly hosts for the lecture evenings from May onwards. Holdings of the Chemnitz City Archive: approx. 7,500 linear metres of archive and collection material in the Historical Archive - including: approx. 85,000 historical photos, pictures, postcards and current recordings, approx. 41,000 volumes in the library, over 45,000 plans, posters, theatre playbills, Chemnitz daily newspapers since 1800, approx. 5,050 entries in the city chronicle from 1990, approx. 5,600 linear metres of files in the central old records office.
