Iraqi authors visit Chemnitz
Workshop and reading on Monday, 18 September, 4 pm and 7.30 pm
On Monday, 18 September, two authors from Iraq will be visiting Chemnitz. In the morning, Amal Ibrahim al-Nusairi and Aliya Talib will be welcomed by Equal Opportunities Officer Pia Hamann at the town hall. In a subsequent discussion, they will discuss the structures of women's work and the planned establishment of a women's centre in Basra.
For years, the media image of Iraq has been dominated by reports of terror and bomb attacks. However, relatively little is known about everyday life in this country.
The two authors have published an anthology (also available in German translation) in which they describe everyday life in their home country. The book "Through the Eyes of Inana" contains stories about love in times of terror, coming to terms with violence, hopes and desires. "Poetry has become an outlet for feelings and experiences. Those who tell stories survive."

4pm - Workshop for women who write
"Writing to survive" is the motto of the two Iraqi women, who have made a conscious decision to remain in their war-ravaged homeland. This workshop for women writers from Chemnitz, Saxony and Iraq sheds light on the background to writing. What motivates them to write? Can writing be a way out of borderline situations in life? Writing women will get to know each other and talk to each other and perhaps create lasting networks.

7.30 pm - Iraqi women authors read and report
The two authors Amal Ibrahim al-Nusairi and Aliya Talib from Iraq read selected texts from the book "Through the Eyes of Inana". The reading will be followed by a discussion with the authors in which they will talk about everyday life in Iraq, in particular the lives of women there, and answer questions.
