At its meeting on 11 December, the City Council did not approve the charges for the discharge of wastewater into the public sewage system planned by the waste management company of the City of Chemnitz (ESC). The draft resolution B-165/20204 was referred back to the responsible Committee for Own Enterprises, Environment and Safety (AEUS) for the second time. The next meeting of the committee will take place in January 2025.
As a result, the ESC's business plan for 2025 was also not adopted and referred back to the committee. The investments included in the business plan are urgently needed to ensure reliable, functioning, ecological and economical wastewater disposal and treatment in the city of Chemnitz.
The planned adjustment of fees ensures financial stability for the operation and maintenance of the approximately 1,000 kilometre-long sewer network and the central sewage treatment plant in Heinersdorf.
Due to the unapproved fees, the ESC had to immediately stop all planned investments for 2025. Over the next few days, all measures will be put to the test. Construction measures that are already underway will be continued. Measures that are absolutely necessary for secure grid operation will also be implemented.
