International Women's Day with action weeks in Chemnitz from 1 to 21 March

On 8 March, women around the world celebrate International Women's Day. For more than 100 years, they have been demanding equal treatment for themselves on this day. If women want their rights, they must continue to fight for them persistently and consistently. Be it the right to equal pay for equal work or the right to reconcile work and family life as well as the opportunity to take up a management position. Today, complex social contexts and the resulting demands are on women's agendas. "This year, we want to turn our attention to the migration of women who were not born in Germany and now live in Chemnitz," says Bettina Bezold, Equal Opportunities Officer for the City of Chemnitz. "How do these women see their lives here, how do they see us, what difficulties have they encountered and what support have they received?" These are the questions the Equal Opportunities Officer will be asking at the celebratory event on Friday, 8 March. At the Women's Day event entitled "My birthplace - far away - my home - Chemnitz", participants of foreign origin will talk about their lives in Chemnitz and encourage women to talk about these issues. The greeting from the city of Chemnitz will be delivered by Mayor Petra Wessler at the event in the power station. "In addition to taking a critical look at reality, we also want to honour women from our midst on this day and of course celebrate," says the Equal Opportunities Officer, who invites the women of Chemnitz to the Women's Day celebration and at the same time encourages them to take advantage of the numerous other offers and activities during the Women's Week from 1 to 21 March. to 21 March during the Women's Weeks.

Action weeks for Women's Day
The network of women's initiatives is organising the Women's Weeks from 1 to 21 March. A workshop to discuss daughters, mothers and grandmothers on 1 March and a workshop on balancing family and career on 15 March at the Lila Villa are also on the agenda. The programme also includes a lecture on Katharina von Bora on 5 March, a lecture on the history of Sephardic Jews on 19 March and the Women's Day Brunch on 10 March at the Women's Centre.
An action by the LISA working group on 8 March in Neumarkt and another on the topic of "Stumbling Stones for Migration" in front of the city council on 13 March will bring current problems into the public eye. On 14 March, a lecture entitled "Who breeds the chickens - about experiences from gender equality work as part of German development aid in Laos" will be held in the hall of Haus Tietz and on 15 March, a documentary film about women in GDR mining will be shown at the KBS pension insurance company.
The final event will be "Equal Pay Day" on 21 March. Equal Pay Day regularly draws attention to the pay gap between women and men. Every year, this day marks the period of time that women have to work beyond the turn of the year in order to earn the average annual salary of men.
One event is particularly close to the hearts of the women's initiatives: "We look forward to welcoming many women to the Chemnitz Peace Day in the city centre:An event for Chemnitz Peace Day will take place here on 5 March from 6 p.m. under the motto 'It's our city - Nazis have no place here'."
