Intercultural Weeks from 18 September to 3 October, Intercultural Film Week from 4 to 10 October

This year's Intercultural Weeks will take place in Chemnitz from 18 September to 3 October. This will be followed by the Intercultural Film Week from 4 to 10 October 2021. We are still looking for participants. If you would like to participate with your own programme, please register by 30 June 2021. The registration forms for the programme are now available at www.chemnitz.de. The organisers are also looking forward to receiving offers of sponsorship and support for the preparation and implementation of the Intercultural Weeks.

Under the motto #offengeht, the Intercultural Weeks send out a strong signal in favour of a tolerant, open society worthy of the Capital of Culture. Whether it is about open doors or whether it is about opening our hearts or minds is just as open as the topics that can be offered at a variety of events.

The situation in the countries of origin, sea rescue, refugee reception, humane accommodation for refugees, integration and inclusion, a clear position against Inclusion, taking a clear stance against misanthropy, racism and nationalistic segregation - Chemnitz residents should be invited by clubs, associations, institutions and organisations to find out about these and other important topics and take advantage of offers for tolerant and peaceful coexistence.

Theatre performances, film screenings, dance classes and concerts, country evenings, sporting events, readings and discussions with authors, training courses, lectures, workshops and information events, as well as exchanges between religions, are intended to arouse interest in people and encounters. The diversity of the city of Chemnitz should also be reflected in the variety of events on offer. All events should and will of course be organised and carried out in compliance with the regulations and requirements stipulated by the Corona Protection Ordinance.

The Intercultural Film Week starts on 4 October 2021 under the motto "See diversity, feel diversity, experience diversity". Films of various genres will be shown on the topics of migration, flight, asylum, racism and discrimination, anti-Semitism, religions and much more. The film screenings are to be enhanced with accompanying events such as talks, panel discussions and other activities.

Keyword Intercultural Weeks
The Intercultural Weeks have been organised in Chemnitz since 1991. The municipality was one of the first cities in the five new federal states to take up the motto "Many cultures, one future - Foreign Citizens' Week" and organised a major concert event with an international line-up in what was then the Luxor-Palast. That was 30 years ago, but the advocacy of better political and legal conditions for coexistence in Germany and the desire to develop a better mutual understanding through encounters and personal contacts and to help break down prejudices remain important goals of the Intercultural Weeks to this day.

The Intercultural Weeks and the Intercultural Film Week are prepared and carried out in Chemnitz by the Migration Officer in close cooperation with the association AGIUA e. V. Migrationssozial- und Jugendarbeit, the women's centre Lila Villa in the association akCente e. V., the Migration Advisory Council, the Social Welfare Office and with the support of numerous Chemnitz associations and initiatives.

The Intercultural Weeks is a series of events organised by the city and is supported by the utility company eins energie and the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Sachsen e. V., Chemnitz office.
