Intercultural Weeks and Intercultural Film Week in autumn
Contributors wanted - registrations possible until the end of May
The Intercultural Weeks will take place in Chemnitz this year from 17 September to 2 October. This will be followed by the Intercultural Film Week from 3 to 9 October 2022. We are still looking for participants for both action weeks. Anyone wishing to participate with their own activities can register by 31 May 2022. The forms are now available at www.chemnitz.de. The organisers are also looking forward to receiving offers of sponsorship and practical support before and during the Intercultural Weeks.
In the two weeks until 2 October, for which Lord Mayor Sven Schulze has assumed patronage, clubs, associations, institutions and organisations can participate in the series of events with offers on the topics of migration, integration and asylum as well as for tolerant and peaceful coexistence. Divided into eight themed areas, guests can expect a festival of cultures. Theatre performances, film screenings, dance classes and concerts, country evenings, sporting events, readings and discussions with authors, training courses, lectures, workshops and information events on various topics, as well as exchanges between religions, are intended to awaken interest in people and encounters. The diversity of the city of Chemnitz should be reflected in the variety of events on offer.
For the opening event of the Intercultural Weeks on 17 September 2022, offers with their own stands are also in demand - from information to art, language, culinary delights - as well as offers from the field of sport, musical and dance contributions and much more.
All offers should and will of course be organised and carried out in compliance with the regulations and specifications set out in the Corona Protection Ordinance.
The Intercultural Film Week will then take place from 3 to 9 October 2022. Here, too, clubs, associations, institutions and organisations can get involved with their own film screenings.
Keyword Intercultural Weeks
The Intercultural Weeks are widely recognised with 5,000 events at more than 500 locations throughout Germany. The city of Chemnitz has regularly taken part in the series of events since 1991. It was one of the first cities in the five new federal states to take up the motto "Many cultures, one future - Foreign Citizens' Week" and organised a major concert event with an international line-up in what was then the Luxor-Palast. That was more than 30 years ago, but the advocacy of better political and legal conditions for living together in Germany as well as the desire to develop a better mutual understanding through encounters and personal contacts and to contribute to the reduction of prejudices remain important goals of the Intercultural Weeks to this day.
The Intercultural Weeks and the Intercultural Film Week are organised in Chemnitz by the City of Chemnitz Migration Officer in close cooperation with the AGIUA e. V. association. Migration Social and Youth Work, the Lila Villa Women's Centre in the akCente e. V. association, the Migration Advisory Council, the Social Welfare Office and with the support of numerous Chemnitz associations and initiatives.
