On Thursday, 26 February, from 5 to 7.30 pm, interested parties are invited to a public information event on the future of the Chemnitz Schauspielhaus in the event hall of the Stadtwirtschaft, Jakobstraße 46. Mayor Thomas Kütter, Mayoress Dagmar Ruscheinsky, Dr Christoph Dittrich, General Director of Chemnitz Theatre, and representatives of an external consulting and planning agency will report on the current situation and planning status and present perspectives.
The event is open to the public and prior registration is required by 20 February due to limited seating capacity. This is possible via the link in the participation portal or by telephone on 0371 488 1956.
After city councillors and specialist committees have intensively discussed two central options in recent months - a renovation of the existing theatre and a possible new building on the Spinnbau site - the aim is to facilitate an open exchange with citizens on the considerations for the future development of the theatre location.

The focus is on two conceivable options for the future:
- Refurbishment of the existing theatre: Refurbishment is considered possible in principle. It would enable modernisation and use for theatre in the existing building, but with limited spatial development possibilities.
- New building in the Spinnbau quarter: A new building in the Spinnbau quarter is being discussed as an alternative, which could enable a concentrated cultural quarter due to its proximity to existing areas of the theatre. A full stage with a lower stage and a laced floor, new workshops, an additional rehearsal stage and extension areas for cultural education are conceivable.
The options will be presented by experts from the Department of Urban Development and Construction, the Department of Social Affairs, Youth, Health, Culture and Sport and Chemnitz Theatre. An open question and answer session provides space for feedback, assessments and discussions.
