Höhenweg 2025 cultural trail opens
Handover of the hiking trail to future users on 14 September, 9 a.m., Adelsberg, forecourt of the parish - followed by a relay race along the trail
On Saturday, 14 September at 9 a.m., the Höhenweg cultural trail, one of 30 intervention areas of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, will be officially opened on the forecourt of the Adelsberg parish in the presence of Mayor of Chemnitz Michael Stötzer and the Chemnitz Süd-Ost citizens' platform.
Following the central opening in Adelsberg, the starting signal will be given for the relay race, which will run along the entire route through the individual city districts. Children from the primary schools in Adelsberg, Reichenhain, Erfenschlag and Harthau will be accompanied by prominent athletes. A small programme will be presented at each location. Food and drink will be provided.

The 18-kilometre Höhenweg connects the districts of Adelsberg, Reichenhain, Erfenschlag and Harthau. This makes it the largest of Chemnitz's 30 intervention areas in terms of area.
The hiking trail with its 29 stations is waiting to be discovered. Information boards provide detailed information in words and pictures about sights and interesting facts along the hiking trail. In addition, four weather mushrooms, one in each part of the city, invite you to linger. One weather mushroom is also located on the Lohse-Uhlig-Steig hiking trail, which crosses the Höhenweg in Kleinolbersdorf.
The work was carried out by the companies ibb Ingenieurbüro Bauwesen GmbH, Steinbach & Richter GbR, Harp Haustechnik GmbH, freelance architect Corina Krug and Metallbau Pohlers GmbH & Co.
Background:
The Public Squares are the result of intensive participation by people in the city's neighbourhoods and localities. The stakeholders from the city's neighbourhoods have put a lot of thought into the project and, together with their citizens, have selected a public space to be redesigned as part of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. Each of the eight areas of the citizens' platforms and each of the eight incorporated localities will receive a maximum of 325,000 euros. For example, a pavilion in Küchwald, a rest area on the Chemnitz Valley cycle path, the Lohse-Uhlig-Steig - a themed circular hiking trail around the village of Kleinolbersdorf-Altenhain - and a lift at Wittgensdorf primary school, which has created a barrier-free event space in the assembly hall.
The public squares are one of the 30 intervention areas of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. They are the city of Chemnitz's urban development project for the Capital of Culture, which now involves an investment of over 60 million euros.
