Foot traffic strategy pilot project
Invitation to press conference: 17 September 2018, 3.30 pm, Brühl/Elisenstraße
On Monday, 17 September 2018, Mayor Michael Stötzer will receive a certificate from the German Pedestrian Association FUSS e.V., represented by project manager Bernd Herzog-Schlagk, for the two-year active participation of the city of Chemnitz as a model city for the development of a municipal pedestrian transport strategy. The event takes place as part of the European Mobility Week. The meeting point is 3.30 pm on the corner of Brühl and Elisenstraße. The public space here is being upgraded until October as part of construction work. This will also improve the situation for pedestrians, especially the quality of the area. With the completion of the northern section, the civil engineering measures on Brühl Boulevard will be finalised.

Background: In spring 2017, the city of Chemnitz was selected as one of five model cities in the research project "Action guidelines for pedestrian traffic strategies". The project, which was commissioned by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety [BMU], was led by FUSS e.V.. The aim of the co-operation was to collect and further develop the necessary foundations for the strategic promotion of pedestrian traffic at a municipal level. In Chemnitz, the situation was analysed and discussed from the perspective of experts and users at two pedestrian traffic checks and two thematic workshops with the administration and stakeholders.
