Fishway bridge is moved to new rest area

On Thursday, 11 July, from 8 a.m., work will begin to move the old Fischweg bridge with a crane to its new location at the future rest area on the Chemnitz Valley cycle path.

The work may be delayed, interrupted or postponed due to weather conditions. (Please note that, for safety reasons, people are only allowed to stay outside the construction site and outside the crane's slewing range.
Not far from the Chemnitztal cycle path, a new public rest area with various seating elements, a pavilion, bicycle stands and a meadow orchard is being built on Chemnitztalstraße near Heinersdorfer Straße in the north of Chemnitz. The rest area on the Chemnitz Valley cycle path is the intervention area of the Chemnitz North Citizens' Platform for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
The redesign has already begun. The implementation planning was presented to the Citizens' Platform North and interested citizens on site on 4 July.
The old Fischweg bridge, which is a technical monument, will be relocated with the design of the new rest area in Draisdorf so that the bridge structure flanks the new rest area. Once the planned renovation work has been completed, it will be possible to walk on it again, visit it and enjoy small-scale art performances.
Completion is planned for the end of September 2024. The construction costs for the rest area and the realisation of the fishway bridge amount to approx. 328,000 euros.
The work is being carried out by the company FUCHS Bau Ost GmbH, Hainichen. The planning office ibb Ingenieurbüro Bauwesen GmbH, Chemnitz, will supervise the construction work.
Background:
The public squares are the result of intensive participation by the people in the districts and localities. The stakeholders from the city's neighbourhoods have put a lot of thought into the project and, together with their citizens, have selected a public space to be redesigned as part of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. Each of the eight areas of the citizens' platforms and each of the eight incorporated localities will receive a maximum of 325,000 euros. For example, a pavilion in Küchwald, a themed circular hiking trail around the village of Kleinolbersdorf-Altenhain and a lift at Wittgensdorf primary school have been implemented, creating a barrier-free event space in the assembly hall.
The public squares are one of the 30 intervention areas of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. They are the city of Chemnitz's urban development project for the Capital of Culture, which now involves an investment of over 60 million euros.
