First youth dialogue on the city centre framework plan

On Thursday, 29 February, from 4 to 6.30 pm, interested young people are invited to a youth dialogue for the city centre framework plan at the Stadt-Schau-Fenster in the Technical City Hall, Friedensplatz 1. Young people's ideas for Chemnitz city centre will be developed in discussions with staff from the city planning office and the City of Chemnitz's coordinator for child and youth participation, Katrin Günther. Among other things, the following questions will be addressed: What are the wishes for a lively city centre? How can public spaces be made more attractive? What is needed to make young people feel comfortable in the city centre and enjoy being there?
The results of the participation will be incorporated into the development of the city centre framework plan. This will be developed by the City of Chemnitz by the end of 2024 and is a strategic concept that is intended to identify key elements for sustainable revitalisation and crisis-proof strengthening of the city centre.
The city centre was already a topic at the Mayor's youth meeting in December. This exchange is now to be continued as part of the city centre framework plan.
Background
City centres are the crystallisation point of public life. They traditionally unite and negotiate a variety of uses at the same time. These include cultural themes, tourist highlights and destinations, diverse places of work and residential neighbourhoods. Increased online trade, the pandemic-driven acceleration of this revolution, digitalisation, climate protection and demographic change are transforming city centres. Chemnitz city centre is also facing the challenges described above. The aim of the framework plan is to develop a guideline for the future of Chemnitz city centre. In a first step, various scenarios are to be developed which, after discussion and evaluation, will result in a mission statement for the city centre. Specific projects and urban development measures will be derived for implementation based on the guiding principles.
