Extension of the Chemnitzpass and Chemnitzpass K

At its meeting today, the City Council decided to extend the validity of the Chemnitzpass and the Chemnitzpass K. Instead of the previous six months, it is now valid for a maximum of one year. The city and city councillors hope that this will encourage more people for whom a Chemnitzpass is a help in everyday life to apply for it. This regulation applies to all Chemnitzpasses/Chemnitzpasses K that are issued or extended from 1 May 2019. Chemnitzpasses/Chemnitzpasses K that have already been issued will remain valid as stated in the passport.

The new version of the Chemnitz Pass Directive also includes the regulations on data protection. With the entry into force of the EU General Data Protection Regulation on 25 May 2018, it became necessary to adapt the previous regulations.


With the Chemnitzpass or Chemnitzpass K, holders receive discounts on certain municipal and other public services and offers.


The following facilities and services are included:

  • Chemnitz Art Collections (Art Collections on Theatre Square, Schlossberg Museum, Gunzenhauser Museum, Rabenstein Castle and Henry van de Velde Museum in Villa Esche), Natural History Museum, Chemnitz State Museum of Archaeology (smac),
  • Games Museum, Industrial Museum, Railway Museum,
  • Exhibitions in Rabenstein Castle, exhibitions in the Grüna folklore centre,
  • Special exhibitions in selected museums, theatre, opera house, puppet theatre, Chemnitz cabaret,
  • Oberrabenstein reservoir, swimming pools in the city of Chemnitz, ice rink,
  • zoo/wildlife park, park railway, school biology centre,
  • City library, adult education centre courses, music school
  • Issue of a residence entitlement certificate
  • for passport holders up to the age of 18: 50 per cent discount when the first ID card is issued (not in the event of loss!)
  • Reduction for participants in holiday camps, leisure activities, if the provider of a holiday camp receives a grant from the City of Chemnitz.


The Chemnitzpass can be applied for by residents of the city who have reached the age of 15 and are unable to support themselves:

  1. belong to the group of persons entitled to benefits for living expenses according to SGB II, the third or fourth chapter of SGB XII,
  2. waive one of the aforementioned benefits within the meaning of § 46 SGB I in order to receive housing benefit in accordance with the Housing Benefit Act (WoGG),
  3. receive a child supplement for their underage children in accordance with § 6 a of the Federal Child Benefit Act (BKGG),
  4. receive benefits for maintenance in accordance with § 39 SGB VIII and whose parents are exempt from raising costs in accordance with §§ 91 ff. SGB VIII or
  5. belong to the group of persons entitled to benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act.


Children in Chemnitz up to the age of 15 receive a Chemnitzpass K if they themselves receive benefits in accordance with numbers 1 and 3 to 5 and children who live in their parents' household if they receive benefits in accordance with number 2. Children up to the age of 18 who do not live in Chemnitz also receive a Chemnitzpass if they receive one of the above-mentioned benefits and a biological parent fulfils the requirements for receiving the Chemnitzpass.


Chemnitzpasses are issued directly at the Social Services Customer Portal in Moritzhof during opening hours.
