Experience nature: At the end of the project "A year between forest and museum"
Invitation for Wednesday (3 July), 3 p.m., to visit the mini museum at the "An der Sparkasse" daycare centre - cooperation between the daycare centre and the Museum of Natural History is to be further expanded
For their inspiring project "Experience Nature - A Year between Forest and Museum" and their successful participation in the "LernStadtMuseum in Sachsen - Schüler entdecken Museen" programme run by the Saxon StateIn summer 2012, the municipal day care centre "An der Sparkasse" (Moritzstraße 33) and the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz were awarded a special prize for their inspiring project "Erlebnis Natur - Jahr zwischen Wald und Museum" (PM 495 from 28.08.2012 - www.chemnitz.de). Children, educators and museum staff have since embarked on an exciting and educational discovery tour together and will now officially conclude their project on Wednesday (3 July). The children of the "An der Sparkasse" daycare centre will open the doors of their self-designed mini-museum on this day from 3 pm, where the past project year will be documented and presented on "talking walls" and with many exhibits. Anyone interested in the "A year between forest and nature" project and its implementation - including residents from the neighbourhood, for example - is cordially invited to "Coffee in the Museum" at the daycare centre from 3 pm.
According to daycare centre manager Kathleen Berthold, both institutions involved in the project want to continue to build on their successful collaboration over the past twelve months and maintain and develop the dialogue with nature together with the children. After all, one of the main aims of the project is to develop awareness and responsibility towards the environment among the youngest children.
Over the past twelve months or so, girls and boys from the "An der Sparkasse" daycare centre have regularly visited woodland areas close to the city and intensively observed the changes in nature, learnt about native animal and plant species and collected various materials. And, of course, they were guests of the project partner and visited the events offered at the Museum of Natural History next door in the TIETZ building, depending on the time of year. The girls and boys were able to expand their knowledge of natural history in a very vivid and practical way, received answers to their numerous questions and were introduced step by step to the museum as a place of experience and learning under expert guidance. The girls and boys then collected their special impressions and research results in research books.
