Living sugar-free - the nine healthiest sweeteners

Anyone who wants to eat a sugar-free diet today faces a major challenge. After all, sugar and its laboratory-produced substitutes are found in a wide range of foods (e.g. ketchup, juices, ready-made soup, gravy, cornflakes, yoghurt, etc.). The choice of healthy sugar substitutes is not so small. Many of the alternative sweeteners that you will learn about in this course are of plant origin. They not only sweeten, but also give you one or two additional health benefits. Versatile recipe ideas will show you how to sweeten delicious desserts and snacks in a healthy way.

The Ayurvedic head and facial treatment has a very calming effect. Tension in the head and neck area can be relieved. This prevents headaches and sleep disorders.

Read Chemnitz! Join us on exciting city walks and learn more about Chemnitz's architecture and urban development. Read the city together with us, understand how and why individual urban spaces and neighbourhoods have developed in this way and then join in the discussion as to whether their design still meets our needs today.

In three city walks we will explore the city centre, Sonnenberg, Schloßchemnitz and Kaßberg, each with a stop in the respective neighbourhood and enough time for joint discussion. The aim is to understand the city and discuss possible ideas for future urban development - also as a contribution to Chemnitz's bid to become Capital of Culture 2025.

"I hope it doesn't happen to me of all people!", many people think and say. Regardless of age, it can happen that you are no longer able to manage your own affairs from one day to the next due to an accident or sudden illness. Not everyone realises that spouses or children are not automatically allowed to make important decisions. But who then takes care of personal matters and who decides how to deal with medical issues?

This presentation is intended to help you find your way around this topic. It provides answers as to what precautionary options are available and what you can and should do in an emergency.

"Gesellschaftsspielchen" - book presentation and discussion about the social responsibility of football

Since the 2006 World Cup, a social network has increasingly been spun around football in Germany. National players are setting up foundations, Bundesliga clubs are establishing social departments, fans are getting involved in youth work. Is this sustainable commitment or just a fancy label?

Berlin-based author Ronny Blaschke aims to provide guidance in his new book "Gesellschaftsspielchen". How can football enrich the community? For diversity and a wealth of movement. Against discrimination and manipulation.

The aim of the event is to network committed people from the region and publicise their ideas.
This event is a co-operation between the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Saxony and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Capital of Culture // Rosenhof Evening - "European Identity"

What actually is Europe? How is Europe visible and effective in Chemnitz? How do we perceive Europe here in Chemnitz, how European are we? And how do we identify ourselves within Europe? Where does our future lie? We would like to explore these and other questions in an exciting journey through Europe and Chemnitz. In the open air, experts will share interesting facts about the city, culture and Europe in the Rosenhof. In a relaxed atmosphere with music and culinary delights, you can discuss or simply enjoy the city together. The event is part of Chemnitz's bid to become Capital of Culture 2025 and serves to provide information and exchange ideas about Chemnitz's urban culture.

Indian henna patterns made by yourself

Do you want to change your outfit? Do you like tattoos but don't want to wear them permanently on your skin? There is a perfect alternative: henna patterns. In Arabic and Indian tradition, women's hands and feet are decorated with henna for various festive occasions. The filigree, geometric patterns not only serve as jewellery, they also have very special meanings: Good luck, fertility, long life or protection from the "evil eye". In one evening, you will receive information and practical instructions on how to decorate your body with henna patterns.

Also suitable for men.

Introduction to Irish Gaelic

In addition to English, Irish Gaelic (Gaeilge) is an official language in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. When travelling through Ireland, you will see bilingual place and information signs everywhere. It belongs to the Celtic languages, as does Scottish Gaelic. Although it is only spoken by a minority, this language has a very long history. In this course, the lecturer will shed light on the tradition and peculiarities of Irish and provide some basic knowledge.

Learning objective: Basic understanding of the history, spread and special features of the language.
This course comprises four sessions and takes place weekly.

The hackers are coming! - Live hacking

When it comes to working securely on a PC, tablet or smartphone, many questions remain unanswered or unclear. In addition to inadequate protection of the technology, people are often the biggest weak point. Good-naturedness, ignorance and curiosity are mercilessly exploited by criminal attackers. In this live hacking event, experts will use wit and humour to show how hackers operate, where typical targets of attack lie and how you can protect yourself against them with simple means. This event is being organised in cooperation with the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior.

Registration is recommended due to the limited number of participants.

When fear becomes an annoying companion

Anxiety protects us from danger, but can also restrict and hinder us unnecessarily. The lecture will give you an overview of the different types of anxiety. You will learn how anxiety manifests itself, which thoughts and inner images trigger and intensify it and when it becomes pathological. You will also learn about techniques that can help you cope with anxiety.

Crystal & Co. - drug abuse among young people

The fashion drug crystal meth has been in the public eye since many serious cases became known. It is also widespread among young people of various ages as an introduction to an "adventure" that can end fatally. The drug is not difficult to obtain, especially in the border region of Saxony, and is unfortunately also present in schools and squares in Chemnitz and the surrounding area.

This development is not only frightening for parents, teachers and guardians. They often lack the necessary background knowledge to be able to classify the overall problem and recognise the first signs of danger in good time.

This course will provide an opportunity to obtain information on the topic and to exchange information on help and prevention options.
The course takes place as part of the "Addiction Prevention" specialist day and in cooperation with the Crime Prevention Council of the City of Chemnitz.

Paragliding in Ethiopia - encounters with people, culture and nature

Experience fascinating impressions of the highlands around Addis Ababa with photos, videos, original sounds and music typical of the country - sometimes from an unusual aerial perspective. Entertaining reports on encounters with the local population provide an insight into the lives of people in north-east Africa. For two and a half weeks, a small group of Germans and Swiss travelled across the country and explored a part of what is probably the oldest cultural landscape of mankind. The resulting photographs are both fascinating and moving.

Persian (Farsi) - introductory course A1

This course is an introduction to the Persian language and focuses on using the language right from the start. Contrary to popular belief, Persian is not related to Arabic, but is written using the same script. Persian - also known as Farsi - is the official language in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, making it the most important Indo-European language in West and Central Asia. If interested, a systematic basic course can then be organised.

The aim of the course is to acquire a basic knowledge of vocabulary and grammar.
This course comprises four events.

Guitar - a new beginning: chord playing andsongaccompaniment

In this workshop, we will learn the most important fingerings for the left hand as well as the essential strumming techniques and plucking patterns for the right hand. Using exercises and song examples, we will work on the correct chord changes and, of course, how to tune the guitar and its components. Additional material will be provided by the instructor.

Hawaiian hula dance to get to know - workshop
Kali Ma's Belly Dance & Healing - DIE Tanzoase, Palmstraße 17 in Chemnitz

Leave everyday life behind with romantic Hawaiian sounds, find your inner centre again, relax and have lots of fun with harmonious dance movements. Learn the beautiful and romantic South Sea dance to original Hawaiian music and authentic choreographies. Hula is a folk dance from Hawaii with an ancient tradition. It tells stories through hand and hip movements. The steps are soft and sensual, the gestures and facial expressions expressive and exotic. It is the interplay of movement, stories and music with a touch of the South Seas that fascinates everyone. In addition to an introduction to the hula movement system and its basic steps, participants will learn a short choreography in the gestures and facial expressions of this narrative dance.

The hula dance workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those with previous knowledge, and for women, men and children alike. Women should bring a wide skirt, pareo and leggings or dress, and socks or light gym shoes for the feet. Dancing is usually done barefoot.

4 September 2017 was the start of the semester (winter semester 2017) at the adult education centre.
