Events for the European Week of Local Democracy
Workshop and lectures in October, November and December
On Wednesday, 18 October, from 4.30 to 8.15 p.m., interested parties are invited to take part in the workshop "Argumentation and action training against inhuman attitudes" as part of the European Week of Local Democracy.
On Thursday, 19 October, from 7 to 8.30 p.m., there will be a lecture on the topic "Promised, broken? The role of election promises in Germany" in the TIETZ, room 5.42. The two events are part of a series with which the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre is participating in the European Week of Local Democracy programme.
Further events will follow on 29 October, 1 and 27 November and 3 December. (The complete programme is attached)
The City of Chemnitz, Chemnitz University of Technology and the Network for Cultural and Youth Work held a joint conference on 14 September. At the joint meeting, ten themed tables were organised to discuss how more democracy, civil courage, diversity and respectful coexistence can be achieved.
In addition, a "talentCAMPus Chemnitz" holiday education programme was held to promote education and culture among children and young people in Chemnitz.
This year's European Week of Local Democracy is being organised under the motto "Local communities: Bringing democratic resilience to the fore".
Throughout the year, activities will be organised around the respective motto and the overarching theme of "Local Democracy". A special focus of the Europe-wide events is also on the implementation of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The week will culminate around 15 October, the day on which the Charter of Local Self-Government is signed. The city of Chemnitz is also taking part with numerous activities, lectures and workshops as well as various cooperation partners.
The annual initiative is coordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. Its aim is to encourage the participation of citizens in local decision-making processes and to improve communication between local politicians and citizens.
