Fear and suspicion dilute the air we breathe, according to Angela Krauß' latest book " Das Weltgebäude muss errichtet werden. You want to live somewhere". For the author, who was born in Chemnitz in 1950 and now lives in Leipzig, transformation is still the first path to realisation and emotional empathy is a prerequisite for her writing. And the real work is not the books, but the art of living, the process of becoming conscious. "That's what literature is for, to meet other people directly. That's what we should do in life, but literature can also remind us how all ideology crumbles the moment we meet the other person. For me, that is the political aspect of literature as I write it." Angela Krauß, member of the Berlin Academy of Arts, talks to Matthias Weichelt, editor-in-chief of the magazine Sinn und Form, in which the author first published in 1986, about feelings in art and literature, the poetic response to inner and outer pressures.
The literary journal Sinn und Form has been published by the Akademie der Künste since 1950. The fact that texts could appear here in GDR times that were not allowed to be printed elsewhere (by Volker Braun, Christa Wolf, Ulrich Plenzdorf, Peter Hacks, Christoph Hein, among others) established the legendary reputation of these contributions to literature.

Interactive stations accompanying the exhibition Edvard Munch. Fear.
Visitors create their own works using feelings such as fear and visions of the future. They interact with various artificial intelligences: Applications that interpret their facial expressions and programmes that question them about the future. The data is translated into fragments of colour and visualised on monitors in a very personal work of art.
A live event with an audiovisual performance will take place alongside this participatory installation.
A visit to the installation is only possible as part of the exhibition. The artists Juliana and Andrey Vrady will be present.

As part of the exhibition Galerie Oben and Clara Mosch, we cordially invite you to the opening of the solo exhibition "Gregor-Torsten Kozik" and to an accompanying talk with the artist on Wednesday, 17 September at 6.30 pm in the Kunstsammlungen am Theaterplatz.
Contrary to the official cultural scene in the GDR, a hotspot of the alternative art scene developed in Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz) at the beginning of the 1970s. With the Galerie Oben and the Clara Mosch artists' group (1977-1982), which also ran a producers' gallery, there were two institutions in the city that attracted art lovers from all over the country with their unconventional exhibition programme, actions and events. At the same time, these venues also served as platforms for artists who were not recognised as such by the state. Here they were given their first exhibition opportunities within the framework of the unofficial scene. The exhibition uses numerous original documents, photos, posters, postcards and letters to tell the story of both galleries and bring them back to life.

Courage through art: Recognising forms of fear and making them visible through painting - workshop

In this 2-hour workshop, you will first be given a brief introduction to various forms of fear. Three basic ways of dealing with anxiety are addressed: Calming, distraction and creative expression. Afterwards, all participants are invited to experiment with colours and give creative expression to their fears. At the end, participants are welcome to reflect on the pictures they have created. How can a new European electronic music sound that emerges from itself and the personalities of its creators? Radical? Elegant? Deconstructed? Reconstructed? A mixture of everything? You are welcome to embark on this experiment with the artists selected here.
Museum Gunzenhauser and raster-media are jointly organising a series of concerts that will invite the winners and shortlisted artists of the raster. open call - soundtrack europe 2025, which was announced in the context of the Capital of Culture, to Chemnitz. On three evenings in September, October and November, two artists will present their live performances in spaces that are dedicated to exploring the European avant-garde and visual arts, thus providing a suitable setting for this project.
New, bold concepts and compositions of all genres of electronic and electro-acoustic music were sought. The submissions selected by a jury will be released on five compilations by raster-media and make a statement as European Soundtrack 20 - 25.

Every year, the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony acquires works of contemporary visual art in order to financially support artists at important points in their careers and to make their work accessible to the public. The focus is on works that were created in the Free State of Saxony. The works of art are nominated and selected by the independent Visual Arts Advisory Board and the Board of the Cultural Foundation.
The WIN/WIN exhibition is a co-operation between the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony and the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz - Museum Gunzenhauser.

In cooperation with the local art and cultural centre Weltecho e.V., we have put together a film programme to accompany the exhibition Edvard Munch. Fear over several months. The accompanying cinematic programme will - just like the exhibition - present different perspectives on the theme of fear.
In Angst essen Seele auf (Rainer Maria Fassbinder, 1974, drama, 93 minutes) we follow an unlikely couple, the 60-year-old cleaner Emmi and the 40-year-old guest worker Ali. Their love affair is put to the test by the prejudices and fears of post-war German society.

Die Wand (Julian Pölsler, 2012, mystery thriller, 110 minutes) tells the story of a woman who finds herself confronted with precisely this surreal and mysterious situation in a hunting lodge in the Austrian Alps.
