Europe on the Sonnenberg: neighbourly get-together with coffee & cake, music, sport and games
On Saturday, 25 May, Chemnitz residents will once again celebrate the European Neighbourhood Festival together with European guests
The European Neighbourhood Festival is jointly organised by the members of the Sonnenberg Sozial e. V. district management and the Sonnenberg District Round Table as well as the EU Office in the Mayor's Office of the City of Chemnitz. Katja Schneider, employee of the city's EU office: "We cordially invite the people of Chemnitz to take part in this year's European Neighbourhood Festival. With our offer, we want to promote neighbourly cooperation and mutual help and would like to invite you to meet our European guests, for example from our Czech twin city Ústí nad Labem and from our Finnish twin city Tampere as well as from Vilnius in Lithuania."
Under the heading "Sport in the district in the context of a healthy lifestyle and personal development", the guests from Chemnitz's twin cities Tampere and Ústí nad Labem as well as a representative from Vilnius in Lithuania will also present typical sports in their countries in the programme on Saturday afternoon: Czech girls and boys from Stříbrnická primary school will perform an aerobics routine. Archery as a sport for the disabled will be presented by the Miteinander statt Gegeneinander association, offering everyone the opportunity to try it out. Visitors to the festival can also get active with various activities organised by the Chemnitz Police Sports Club, as well as goal wall shooting, a snake course and ball juggling by the CFC's Chemnitz FAN project. The reading café of the KaffeeSatz e. V. association will take visitors on a journey around Europe with an interactive quiz.
The European Neighbourhood Festival will be rounded off with a European exchange of experiences, which will look at sport in society in the context of health and personal development. The European guests will illustrate their experiences with varied "Pecha Kucha" presentations: Jolita Ivanova from the Vilnius Cultural Centre will talk about "Sport as an art form: Concept and Perspective', Raija Mikkola from the City of Tampere's Urban Planning Department on 'A Neighbourhood in Transition' and Zuzana Kailová, Deputy Mayor of Ústí nad Labem, on supporting sport in her home town.
Last but not least, the get-together at the European Neighbourhood Day will also be used by Chemnitz organisers and guests to develop ideas for cooperation in 2014. On the evening of 25 May, the participants plan to visit the Chemnitz Museum Night from 6 pm - starting at 6 pm, also in the Sonnenberg district, for the opening of the Window of Earth History in Glockenstraße(www.chemnitz.de/museumsnacht).

The European guests will be welcomed by their hosts in Chemnitz on Friday, 24 May and invited to a tour of the Sonnenberg district led by district manager Elke Koch at 5 pm.
