Education recommendation will be issued on 7 February
This year, pupils in the fourth grade will receive their educational recommendation from their primary school on 7 February. This is the prerequisite for enrolling the child at a secondary school. Registration at a secondary school or grammar school is possible until 28 February 2020. The admission letter will be issued by the respective school by 4 June 2020.
The educational recommendation for the grammar school is issued if the average grade in maths, German and general studies is 2.0 or better. In addition, none of these three subjects may be graded "sufficient" or worse.
Since 2017, the educational recommendation has only been of an indicative nature. This means that parents can register their child at a grammar school of their choice until 28 February 2020, even without a grammar school recommendation. The children will then take part in a written assessment on 3 March 2020. The tasks are created centrally and take into account the key subjects of German, maths and general studies. In the period from 3 to 12 March 2020, a mandatory counselling interview will be held with the parents at the grammar school of their choice. Failure to attend the counselling interview counts as a withdrawal of the application for admission to a grammar school.
A decision on possible admission is made in this counselling interview. In addition to the educational recommendation, the decision criteria are the last annual report, the last half-year report and the written performance assessment. If a recommendation is nevertheless made in favour of the secondary school, parents can inform the school in writing within a period of three weeks that they wish to maintain their enrolment at the grammar school. The headmaster then has the final authority to decide on the child's admission.
The following documents are required for enrolment:
- Enrolment form (indication of second and third preference urgently required)
- Copy of the half-year information
- Original or certified copy of the child's birth certificate
- Original of the educational recommendation
Please note: Registration for the new secondary school "Arno-Schreiter-Straße 1" takes place at the Albert-Schweitzer-Oberschule, Albert-Köhler-Straße 48, as this is still being run as a branch of the Albert-Schweitzer-Oberschule in the current school year. The new secondary school will then be independent from the start of the 2020/2021 school year.
