On Saturday, 21 March, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., interested parties are invited to this year's Open Health Office Day at the adult education centre in the TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20. All offers are free of charge. Registration is not required.
Under the title "Diversity for Health", citizens will get a comprehensive look behind the scenes and learn more about the diverse tasks, offers and services of the City of Chemnitz's Office for Health and Prevention.
Various information and activity stands offer interactive hands-on activities as well as expert information on selected health topics, e.g. vaccination or practical tips on the safe use of drinking water in everyday life. The paediatric and youth medical service will also provide information on children's health and will be happy to answer any questions.
The programme will be rounded off with an expert presentation on nutrition for autoimmune diseases and a workshop on the topic of "Abnormalities during daycare examinations - what can you do?". The speakers will impart up-to-date, scientifically sound knowledge and provide practical ideas for everyday life. The links between nutrition and autoimmune diseases will be clearly explained and options for a supportive lifestyle will be highlighted.
The contribution on daycare centre examinations focuses on everyday strategies that parents and professionals can use to learn how to prepare children for the start of school in a playful and structured way. Following the presentations, there will be an opportunity to ask specific questions.
Between 12 noon and 2 p.m., parents in particular can take advantage of individual counselling and find out how they can best support their child when starting school.
There is also plenty for the youngest guests to discover: In the Teddy Clinic, cuddly toys brought along will be thoroughly examined, lovingly treated and quickly nursed back to health - just like in a real doctor's surgery. The children learn in a playful way how important prevention, care and health are. The movement course invites them to balance, jump and try things out and awakens the joy of movement.
A highlight this year is the children's rally: together with their parents, young explorers can get active at a variety of stations, learn interesting facts about health in a fun way and look forward to a small surprise at the end.
In between, you can recharge your batteries: with a few powerful kicks on the smoothie bike, children and adults alike can mix their own smoothie - healthy, delicious and fun to make.
Head of office Katja Uhlemann: "Health is an issue that affects us all - every day, in all areas of life. We want to support people in consciously looking after themselves, informing themselves and taking small steps towards a healthy life. Our aim is to make diversity and prevention tangible and to inspire every citizen with enthusiasm for the topic of health."
Numerous events are already on the programme in the week before the Open Health Office Day, which are very popular every year. During this "Week of Health", the Office for Health and Prevention of the City of Chemnitz organises various activities specifically for different target groups: For example, there is an event for young mothers on the topic of children's health. In addition, the paediatric and youth medical service provides information on what parents should know for a successful start to school.
In the "Healthy lunch box" nutrition project, children from a day-care centre learn through play which foods are good for their health and pupils from a grammar school learn which ingredients are hidden in energy drinks, for example.
There is also a specialist day for relatives of people with mental illnesses, which provides tips and specialist background information.

Background information
The local health authorities are a central pillar for protecting the health of the population. The Robert Koch Institute proclaimed the Day of the Public Health Department for the first time in 2019 - on 19 March, the birthday of Johann Peter Frank. Born in the mid-18th century, the doctor and social physician is considered the founder of the public health service. For this reason, the "Open Health Office Day" takes place every year around 19 March.
The day of action is funded by the Free State of Saxony.

Due to ongoing renovation work in the premises of the Office for Health and Prevention, Am Rathaus 8, this year's Open Health Office Day will take place in the premises of the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre in the TIETZ.
