Day of urban development promotion: Stadtwirtschaft presents itself
Further promotional projects will also be presented on the Sonnenberg on 13 May
This year's nationwide Urban Development Day will take place on Saturday, 13 May, when cities and municipalities will show what urban development funding can achieve locally. In Chemnitz, under the motto "We in the neighbourhood", projects will be presented on the Sonnenberg that are being realised with urban development funding from the federal government, the Free State of Saxony and the City of Chemnitz: the Stadtwirtschaft - an intervention area of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 - and the Kreativachse Chemnitz.
Guided tours of the Stadtwirtschaft site (Jakobstraße 46) are planned for 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. , each lasting around one and a half hours. Representatives of the City of Chemnitz's urban planning office, together with the implementation partners Kreatives Chemnitz e. V. and many other stakeholders, will provide information about the status of the redevelopment work and about existing and future offers. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
A tour of the Sonnenberg will start at 12 noon at the Stadtwirtschaft to present other urban development projects such as the Kreativachse Chemnitz and successful examples of redevelopment.
In the coming years, a place for creative makers will be created on the site of the former fertiliser removal company, which was built in Chemnitz's working-class district of Sonnenberg from 1891: the Stadtwirtschaft. The intervention area of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 offers space for new, creative ideas for the neighbourhood and the entire city.

Background:
For more than 30 years, urban development funding from the federal and state governments - combined with numerous investments by the city and private commitment - has made an indispensable contribution to urban development. To date, more than 400 million euros in grants from various programmes have been invested in development areas of the Gründerzeit, in the city centre, in districts in the Heckert area or for the revitalisation of brownfield sites. Neighbourhood management teams are active on site with citizens on behalf of the urban planning office, redevelopment agencies and agencies advise building owners or new investors, encourage cooperative housing projects and support small businesses in the neighbourhood. As a rule, the federal government, the state and the city of Chemnitz each bear around one third of the costs of such projects. Urban development funding provides impetus for further public and private initiatives in the neighbourhood. 1 euro of urban development funding generates around 7 euros of follow-up investment
The Day of Urban Development Promotion has been celebrated nationwide since 2015 in order to strengthen citizen participation in urban development and to make the successes of urban development promotion directly visible on site. Ideas, projects and stakeholders in all urban development funding programme municipalities provide a forum for presentation and show residents and interested parties what can and has become possible with urban development funding.
