Culture Committee decides to support measures from the "Socio-cultural Youth Fund"
Socio-cultural projects in Chemnitz will be funded with around 36,500 euros in 2020 - applications for remaining funds now possible
At the end of April, the majority of the city council voted in favour of the working group's proposals. This means that a total of 18 projects can be realised in 2020. The focus of the funded projects is in the socio-cultural field ─ the aim is to promote cross-disciplinary and cross-thematic cultural practice with the active participation of children and young people. This year's projects focus in particular on cultural diversity, urban regeneration, ecology and environmental protection. Thanks to their co-operation and new themes, projects that have already received funding have been able to set innovative priorities in terms of content.
Following last year's successful realisation of the Chemnitz theory festival "Kantine Luxemburg", the association Subbotnik e. V. is dedicating this year to the German philosopher Walter Benjamin. Through lectures, workshops, readings, concerts and discussions, the life and work of Benjamin will be presented from a variety of practical and theoretical perspectives.
The long-term intercultural youth ecology project "Nia-Domo" organised by AJZ e. V. promotes the ecologically sustainable education of teenagers and young adults. Theoretical questions of sustainability and environmental protection are dealt with in lectures and discussions, while practical skills are also promoted through the further development of a permaculture garden and a themed excursion. Special attention will be paid to the ecological activism of young people and the topic of animal rights.
In addition to creative self-activity, active participation in organisation, implementation and sustainability is crucial for socio-cultural projects.
In the long-standing project "poet|bewegt - Competition for Young Literature", young people are involved in the organisational structure and acquire important skills in areas such as event logistics and cultural management. The festival also supports young talents on their artistic path: the self-written texts that the young people submit to the competition are presented to a national jury and, after nomination, to the Chemnitz public in the final round.
A remaining amount of 13,445 euros is still available in the funding pot for 2020. Applications can still be submitted.
