City pool open again for bathers from Monday (1 October)

At a cost of around 520,000 euros, extensive construction work has been carried out in recent weeks to improve the water supply and increase the water quality. The construction work was commissioned to the company Gunther Hüttner +Co. GmbH from Chemnitz. It was necessary to adapt the capacity of the water supply system to the changed conditions in order to ensure the standardised and trouble-free operation of the pool facilities. In addition, work was required to meet the amended requirements of the new Drinking Water Ordinance. With the extensive technical changes already realised in the years from 2009 to 2012 - e.g. replacement of the splash water tanks in the 25 and 50 metre halls, replacement of the sludge water treatment system and installation of new water treatment systems in the sauna), the water consumption of the municipal swimming pool has already been significantly reduced from over 400 m³ per day to around 100 m³.

As part of the construction work that has now been completed, many of the pipes for the cold water installations in the basement and some of the cold water distribution system were replaced. Numerous pipes that were no longer required were dismantled to improve accessibility for maintenance work. The old underground storage tank and the cold water elevated tank were taken out of service and replaced with a new, demand-orientated water storage tank including a pressure booster system. To ensure the legally prescribed water hygiene quality parameters, the well water is now treated by several filtration stages, a dosing system and a water softening system to produce water of drinking water quality.

Legislation prescribes mandatory inspection intervals for some technical systems. Therefore, for example, the pressure vessels of the water heating systems and the dosing systems for controlling the water chemistry were inspected. With the technical renovations that have been realised, it is now even possible for the municipal swimming pool to provide water for the city's supply in an emergency via the existing deep well.

According to the sports office, the closure period was also used to carry out a thorough cleaning of the glass levels above the 50-metre hall: Dripping water and dust had left traces here over time on the glass ceiling visible from below. This work, which would have taken several days, could not have been carried out during usage times for reasons of operational safety.
Painting work was carried out in some areas. In addition to the glass façade, all stainless steel parts such as handrails, access ladders and the diving board were thoroughly cleaned. All swimming and bathing pools were cleaned, disinfected and, where necessary, expansion joints and tile grouting were replaced before refilling.

The roof over the sauna facility is currently being completely renovated at a cost of 60,000 euros. This work, which will no longer have a negative impact on the use of the sauna given the current status of the work, is expected to be completed by mid-October.

The municipal pool can be visited during public opening hours as follows:

50 metre hall:
Monday: 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Endurance swimming
Tuesday: 2 to 10 p.m. endurance swimming in 2 lanes
Wednesday: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. swimming for seniors and the disabled and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Thursday: 6 am to 2 pm and 2 pm to 10 pm, endurance swimming
Friday: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. for seniors and the disabled and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 9 am to 4 pm

Last admission 1 hour before closing time.

Monday: 1 to 10 p.m. Community sauna
Tuesday: 9 am to 10 pm women's sauna
Wednesday: 9 am to 1 pm men's sauna, 9 am to 1 pm women's sauna, 1 pm to 10 pm communal sauna
