Each winning team receives its own tree
On Monday, 6 September, the world's largest cycling campaign "CITY CYCLING" starts in Chemnitz. The city of Chemnitz is taking part for the first time. Until 26 September, every kilometre cycled for business or pleasure in our city counts. The main aim of the CITY CYCLING competition is to encourage as many people as possible to switch to cycling in their everyday lives, thereby contributing to climate protection and promoting cycling. At the end of the campaign, attractive prizes will be raffled off among the participants.
More than 370 Chemnitz residents have already registered at www.chemnitz.de/stadtradeln.
At the end, the winners will be awarded in five categories: the most active cyclists (people with the most kilometres cycled), the team with the most active cyclists (team with the most kilometres cycled per person), the most active cycling team with the most kilometres cycled, the most active cycling daycare centre and the most active cycling school. The city of Chemnitz will plant a tree for each winning team.
"Germany has ambitious goals for the next two decades. The country aims to be climate-neutral by 2045. It goes without saying that we are working to reduce the carbon footprint in our city. The expansion of the city's attractive cycle path network is helping us to achieve this. The construction of the first cycle lane on Reichenhainer Straße between Lutherstraße and Campusplatz is an important first step. More will follow. I am all the more pleased
