City Council decides to change the name of Rottluff primary school to Rabenstein "Hans Carl von Carlowitz" primary school
At its meeting today, the Chemnitz City Council decided to change the name of Rottluff Primary School, Jugendweg 1a, 09116 Chemnitz, to Rabenstein Primary School "Hans Carl von Carlowitz", Trützschlerstraße 10, 09117 Chemnitz, and to relocate the school in 2016.
The two-form entry primary school Rottluff in school district I/1 is run by the City of Chemnitz. In connection with the 2013/2014 school building construction programme, the city council decided on 19 September 2012 to renovate and extend the listed school building in Rabenstein and to relocate Rottluff primary school to the building at Trützschlerstraße 10.
Since June 2014, a general refurbishment of the school building at Trützschlerstraße 10 in Rabenstein, including the sports hall and outdoor facilities, has been underway with funding from the Free State of Saxony.
The name sequence deliberately chosen by the Rottluff primary school, Grundschule Rabenstein "Hans Carl von Carlowitz", is intended to enable the short form of Grundschule Rabenstein in addition to the official, official long form with the name affix. The district name Rabenstein should be placed at the beginning of the name to give outsiders and pupils a clear local reference. It is also intended to honour the strong commitment of the local residents to the school.
Prior to this, residents of Rabenstein played a key role in the town's public participation in the 2013/2014 school building programme, campaigning for the preservation of this school location. The association "Unabhängige Bürgerinitiative Rabenstein e. V." also endeavoured for several years to revive the school building at Trützschlerstraße 10 for teaching purposes.
The headmistress of Rottluff Primary School had applied for the name change after the school conference of Rottluff Primary School had approved the application of the Saxon Hans Carl von Carlowitz Society e. V. to include the name "Hans Carl von Carlowitz" in the future school name of Rabenstein Primary School on 1 October 2014.
