At its meeting today, the City Council decided to increase the flat-rate service charge for garage parking spaces on municipal properties. This amounts to 35 euros per parking space per year with retroactive effect from 1 January 2025. In addition, the City of Chemnitz will be responsible for future adjustments.
The background to the decision is the changed cost situation for municipal car park plots. Expenses such as property tax, street cleaning fees, the rainwater charge and costs for traffic safety and residents' obligations are regularly incurred there.
These costs have risen continuously since the last adjustment in 2017.
The property tax reform, which has been in force since 1 January 2025, will result in additional changes: In future, the City of Chemnitz will be assessed directly for properties with garages. This will result in additional costs that were previously borne by the garage users.
The increase in the flat-rate service charge that has now been agreed offsets these additional costs. While garage users will no longer have to make separate property tax payments from 2025, these amounts will flow back to the city via the flat rate in future. As a result, ancillary costs will increase by an average of €15 per year per parking space.
The boards of the car park associations have already been informed by the Urban Planning and Property Office. Individual users will also be notified.
As in 2018, the City of Chemnitz will agree corresponding contract amendments with all contractual partners.
