At its meeting today, the city council passed a new regulation on the levying of resident parking charges. The new regulation will come into force on 1 October 2025.
In future, the fee for a resident parking permit will be 100 euros for a one-year application and 170 euros for a two-year application. Separate fees apply for replacement documents or changes: 70 euros for a new issue in the event of loss and 30 euros for changes to existing permits.
Previously, a resident parking permit in Chemnitz cost 30 euros per year. This amount only covered the administrative costs, but not the value of using public car parks. With the reform of federal law and the subsequent regulation of the Free State of Saxony, local authorities have been given the opportunity to set the fees for residents' parking themselves.
The new fee is made up of two components: an administrative fee of 30 euros per year and a user fee of 70 euros per year. To reduce the number of applications and the administrative burden, a two-year application is advantageous. Only the annual user fee is charged for the second year.
This puts more value on the use of public parking spaces. Converted to the day, this means In future, a resident will pay around 28 cents a day for parking in his/her residential area - and thus significantly less than a regular day ticket in parking zone II (2.50 euros) or a private permanent parking space (around 60 to 80 euros a month).
In a nationwide comparison, Chemnitz is in the lower price segment with the new annual fee of 100 euros. Many other cities have already raised their charges and are well above this level.
With the introduction of the new residents' parking charges, the city of Chemnitz is implementing the action plan adopted in March 2025 to reduce the structural deficit. At the same time, public spaces will be priced more fairly.
