City council approves slight increase in taxi fares
The changes provide for an increase of €0.10 in the price per kilometre for day and night fares as well as an increase of €0.50 in the basic fare and the charge for waiting time. The basic fare will generally be €3.00 in future. The kilometre fare for the first 3 kilometres will rise to €1.30 on weekdays (6am - 10pm) and to €1.80 on weekdays (10pm - 6am) and on Sundays and public holidays. Regardless of the time and day, the charge will be €1.30 from the 3rd kilometre.
The increase in transport charges is justified by price rises in recent years, for example for fuel as well as for vehicle maintenance and repairs, insurance services, office supplies and tax advice.
Compared to other cities, taxi fares in Chemnitz remain in the lower third even after the increase. A total of 205 taxis are registered in Chemnitz, which corresponds to a taxi density of 0.85 taxis per 1000 inhabitants.
The transport charges are calculated in accordance with § 51 Para. 1 i. in conjunction with Section 39 (2) of the Passenger Transport Act. Accordingly, charges must at least cover costs. In addition, the preservation of the efficiency and willingness to perform of the entrepreneurs, which is desired by law in the public interest, requires the estimation of reasonable profit margins and expenses for technical developments, the amount of which must be set taking into account conventional, relevant and representative empirical values.
Taxi fares were last amended in 2001, 2005 and 2008.
