At its meeting today, the Chemnitz City Council approved amendments to the articles of association of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Chemnitz. Specifically, this concerns the composition and term of office of the Supervisory Board as well as the number of Supervisory Board members.
In future, the Supervisory Board will consist of five members instead of the previous nine. Their term of office is no longer limited to a period of five years, but is instead linked to the respective term of office of the City Council of the City of Chemnitz.
In future, the Supervisory Board will include the Lord Mayor of the City of Chemnitz or a representative of the administration proposed by him/her. It will also include a member of the City Council and three external experts, in particular from the region and the Free State.
The reason for this adjustment is that the previous European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH is continuing the legacy of the European Capital of Culture with a smaller structure, as a so-called legacy company. The focus will be on the continuation/coordination of proven projects, particularly with the surrounding area, communication with citizens, fundraising and the strategic further development of existing project structures.
In a second resolution, the City Council decided to appoint the following persons to the Supervisory Board of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH from 5 May 2026 after the expiry of the term of office of the previous Supervisory Board: Lord Mayor Sven Schulze, Silke Franzl, Mayor of the town of Ehrenfriedersdorf (representing the region), Franziska Brech, Head of the Culture and Tourism Division at the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism (representing the Free State of Saxony), Franziska Werner, dramaturge, curator and cultural manager, and Dietmar Holz, member of the City Council.
