City centre parking concept - stage 2

New parking fee regulations will be gradually introduced from 1 September in Zone C and from 1 October in Zone D

From 1 September, the second stage of the City of Chemnitz's parking concept will come into effect. The concept, which was approved by the city council in 2017, is being implemented in terms of parking space requirements, the legal basis, urban planning developments and transport and environmental policy objectives.

The sites for the new parking ticket machines are currently being prepared (civil engineering work). From the beginning of August to the end of September, the parking ticket machines and traffic signs will gradually be installed and put into operation.

The new parking management areas in zone C will be gradually put into operation from 1 September and those in zone D from 1 October. At the same time, the new resident parking zones C and D will be set up and new resident parking permits will be issued.

Parking in the zones will be subject to charges in accordance with the City of Chemnitz parking fee regulations for all public car parks. Residents with a valid resident parking permit are exempt from the parking fee.

The resident parking permit can be applied for if:

  • Applicants are officially registered as having their main or secondary residence in the designated area,
  • have a vehicle registered in their name or can prove that they permanently use another person's vehicle and
  • is in possession of a valid driving licence.

A fee of 30 euros per year is charged for the resident parking permit. The permit can be applied for for a maximum of two years. An application form must be completed and the required evidence provided.

The application can only be processed with a signature or electronic signature(https://amt24.sachsen.de/) and complete documentation.

The parking permit will only be returned by post.

Residents with resident parking permits for the old zones D1 and K1 with a validity until after 1 October 2022 will receive a new parking permit for the new resident parking zone D by post free of charge without having to apply.
