The first stage of the parking concept for Chemnitz city centre will come into force on 1 June 2021. The concept was approved by the city council in April 2017.

The signage for parking management zones A, B and F (see site plan) is currently being erected on site and the necessary parking ticket machines are being installed. The work will continue until September 2021 due to the high construction costs and various construction sites to be observed in the city centre. The car park concept will therefore be introduced gradually.

Verkehrsschild Parkzone

The new traffic signs of the same name are used to signpost the parking management zones A, B and F. It is used when parking is only permitted with a parking ticket in a contiguous area in several streets. The traffic signs are only displayed at the entrance and exit of the zone.

Within the parking management zone, there will be no other signage indicating that a parking ticket must be purchased.

During the transition phase between June and September, Chemnitz residents and visitors to the city are asked to pay increased attention to the local parking regulations and to behave in accordance with the signage.

Residents of the parking management zones will receive a resident parking permit on application and can then park in the parking management zone to which they belong without a parking ticket.

The resident parking permit can be applied for if:

  • Applicants are officially registered as having their main or secondary residence in the designated area,
  • have a vehicle registered in their name or can prove that they permanently use another person's vehicle and
  • is in possession of a valid driving licence.

To apply, the application form must be completed and the required evidence provided. The application can be accessed at www.chemnitz.de/bewohnerparkausweis. Further information on the application process can be found there. The application can also be submitted conveniently online directly at https://amt24.sachsen.de/.

Chemnitz residents who have a valid resident parking permit for the current resident parking zones will automatically receive a new one by post, which will be valid in the corresponding parking management zone from 1 June 2021. Along with the new parking permit, all persons concerned will receive written information and a map.
During checks, the new resident parking permits will also be recognised in the old resident parking zones during the transition phase.

In addition to residents with a resident parking permit, vehicles with an e-licence plate and car-sharing vehicles are also exempt from the obligation to purchase a parking permit. Further information on this can be found on the parking ticket machines.
