Citizen information: Voluntary military service and data transfer

Sending of information material by the Bundeswehr - objection possible until 28 February 2015 Application at the registration office, citizen service centres and online at www.chemnitz.de

Women and men who are German within the meaning of the Basic Law can undertake to perform voluntary military service in accordance with the Military Law Amendment Act, which came into force on 1 July 2011. In this context, it is one of the tasks of the registration authorities to transmit the surname, first names and current address of persons with German citizenship who will come of age in the coming year to the Federal Office of Defence Administration (in accordance with Section 58 c of the Soldiers Act). The Federal Office, in turn, sends the persons concerned information material on activities in the armed forces. Pursuant to Section 18 (7) of the Registration Act, the transfer of data is only permitted if the persons concerned have not objected.

Who can apply to object? Women and men born in 1998 have until 28 February 2015 to exercise their right to object.

The application is available here: The application to object to the transfer of data is available from the Chemnitz registration office and the city's citizen service centres and is also available online on the City of Chemnitz website: www.chemnitz.de > Forms > Letter D (Data protection).

The application must be sent to this authority: The objection to the transfer of a data subject's data should be addressed to the City of Chemnitz, Citizens' Office, Registration Office, 09106 Chemnitz (located at Düsseldorfer Platz 1).

Objections can also be submitted to any citizen service centre of the City of Chemnitz.

Office hours of the registration office (Bürgerhaus Am Wall, Düsseldorfer Platz 1): Monday and Friday 8:30 am to 12 noon, Tuesday and Thursday 8:30 am to 6 pm and on Saturday 9 am to 1 pm. Office hours of the citizen service centres: Office hours can be enquired about by dialling 115.
