Citizen information from the Citizens' Office: New blocking hotline on 116 116 for blocking the online ID function in the event of ID card loss
Citizens who have applied for a new ID card since 1 November 2010 have the option of using the online ID function to identify themselves securely on the Internet. If the ID card is lost or stolen and the function was switched on, the function must be blocked to prevent misuse. The blocking can be carried out by the city's registration office or in advance by the ID card holder via a blocking hotline. The Citizens' Office of the City of Chemnitz would like to point out that since the beginning of 2014, the telephone number 116 116 has been available for blocking the online ID function of the new ID card by telephone following loss or theft.
From Germany, the new blocking hotline can be used free of charge from landlines and all mobile phone networks. From abroad, the barring hotline can be reached by dialling the German country code, i.e. +49 116 116, for a fee. For additional security, the blocking hotline can also be reached on +49 (0)30 40 50 40 50.
The citizens' service of the Federal Ministry of the Interior will continue to be available on 0180-1-33 33 33, which will be used until the end of 31 December 2013. This can be reached from Monday to Friday during service hours from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for all questions relating to the new ID card. Blocking of the online ID card functions will no longer be accepted there from the beginning of the new year.
