Christmas parcels for children are packed
Invitation for journalists: on 2 December, 4 pm, Clausstraße 10/12
On Monday, 2 December at 4 p.m., the members of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Board of the Johanneum Children and Youth Foundation will meet again to pack Christmas parcels for the city's children. The "Johanneum Christmas" campaign will take place on the premises of Grundstücks- und Gebäudewirtschafts-Gesellschaft mbH (GGG), Clausstraße 10/12.
Representatives of the media are invited to attend.
The foundation is supported by various companies such as Richter & Hess Verpackungs-Service GmbH. Due to the constantly increasing need, the members of the Board of Trustees also turned to the employees in their companies this year, who also contributed to the "Johanneum Christmas" by packing parcels.
In addition to this campaign, which is taking place for the fifth time, the Johanneum Children and Youth Foundation also supports other projects such as the Johanneum Academy, a project initiated by the foundation itself. It is held twice a year - one week during the Easter holidays and one week during the autumn holidays. The aim of this project is to introduce financially disadvantaged children to various educational programmes, to awaken their curiosity, to develop social skills and to increase their self-esteem. At the Johanneum Academy, constant educational project support for the children is provided by staff from the school hostel run by Kinder- Jugend- und Familienhilfe e. V. Chemnitz. In addition to educational activities, the programme also includes sport and creativity. The foundation's reliable partners are various independent youth welfare organisations and project partners from the worlds of business, culture and sport.
In addition, a summer camp has been organised since 2020, as the coronavirus pandemic has led to an educational deficit, particularly among children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. The foundation aims to counteract this deficit with this additional project week.
The history of the Johanneum Children's and Youth Foundation began in 1855, when Carl Christian Hübner from Chemnitz initiated the establishment of a foundation to give girls and boys from socially disadvantaged families equal opportunities in life. When it was re-established in 2002, it became the first legally independent municipal foundation in the city of Chemnitz. The projects supported primarily help children and young people in Chemnitz, most of whom are on the dark side of life and whose youth is sometimes characterised by a lack of courage and prospects.
The foundation can be supported with donations and endowments so that it can continue to provide effective help.
