Chemnitz is music capital for four days: German Music Festival opens with gala
The 5th German Music Festival in Chemnitz officially opened with the opening gala that began a few minutes ago. "A warm welcome to all participants and guests in our city," said Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig. "We are looking forward to four days full of music and many exciting encounters."
In addition to the opening gala with BDMV President Siegfried Kauder, Federal Minister of Justice Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger and Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig, the evening programme includes a concert by the brass band.
Gerhard Schöne kicked off the events this morning with an inspiring concert in the Stadthalle. In the afternoon, families were drawn to the power station and the Küchwald forest, where hundreds of festival-goers joined in the big family sing-along. On the stages in the city centre, orchestras and bands had already been creating an exuberant atmosphere since the morning. Thousands of guests were out and about in the city centre to enjoy the open-air concerts.
Chemnitz is the capital of music for four days: over 300 organisations, including numerous foreign ones, have come to Chemnitz for the 5th German Music Festival. A total of 15,000 participants travelled to the city, taking part in 315 concerts and 216 competitions.
