Chemnitz exports cultural project to Uzbekistan
SCHLINGEL delegation travels to Tashkent and Fergana for the 3rd German-Uzbek children's and youth film festival "Shum bola"
A delegation from the Chemnitz-based International Film Festival for Children and Young Audiences SCHLINGEL travelled to Uzbekistan today. The festival organiser, which is supported by municipal funds, is exporting the successful Chemnitz cultural project with 14 German films from previous festival editions to Tashkent and Fergana. The 3rd German-Uzbek Youth Film Festival "Shum bola" will take place there from 28 to 5 May 2016. The Chemnitz film festival is also the inspiration for the name of the Uzbek edition. Translated, Shum bola means rascal.
In March 2016, the Cultural Committee of the City of Chemnitz decided to provide institutional funding for the Saxon Children's and Youth Film Service e. V., including the International
film festival for children and young audiences SCHLINGEL in the amount of 150,000 euros.
The German SCHLINGEL films were dubbed or subtitled in Russian for the film screenings in Uzbekistan. Films from the competition category "Blickpunkt Deutschland" will be shown, most of which were presented in Chemnitz last year. The festival will open with the German fairy tale "Nutcracker and Mouse King".
The Chemnitz SCHLINGEL festival director Michael Harbauer will be accompanied by festival assistant Marion Schöffler and two media educators who will be creating animated films in workshops with children and young people in Uzbekistan. Katharina Wagner, producer of the German fairy tale "Nutcracker and Mouse King", will also be travelling with him to talk to the children about her film on site.
The 3rd German-Uzbek Youth Film Festival "Shum bola" is organised by the Goethe-Institut Tashkent in cooperation with the Chemnitz Film Festival SCHLINGEL and the
Uzbek film authority "Uzbekkino". The Central German Media Fund MDM, the Saxon State Chancellery and German Films are supporting the presentation. The aim is to reach around 5,000 children and young people aged between six and 18.
