Brochure "Two names, one city" also in English

"Two Names, One City" now available at the town hall

Pd0045 Broschüre Twonames Onecity

The publication "Two names, one city", which was first published to mark the 25th anniversary of the renaming of Karl-Marx-Stadt to Chemnitz, is now also available in English.

On 25 pages, the brochure tells stories from the city from the renaming in 1953 and its renaming in 1990, including photos from contemporary witnesses such as Helmut Pfeifer and Claus Modaleck. Further material comes from the Chemnitz City Archive and the Office of the Federal Commissioner for Stasi Records.

The brochure proved to be a popular read almost two years ago and continues to enjoy great popularity. In order to present the history of the city in an international context, an English translation was commissioned. Now international guests can also read what those involved in the renaming process have to say. The interviewees included tower keeper Stefan Weber (it was one of his last interviews), honorary citizen and former superintendent Christoph Magirius, former Lord Mayor Dr Eberhard Langer, the organiser of the referendum Claus Modaleck and Manfred Hastedt, head of the Environmental Centre - representing the many rebranding projects that have emerged in recent years.

The brochure has been published in an edition of 500 copies and is now available at the reception of the New Town Hall while stocks last. The German copy, of which around 9000 copies have now been printed and distributed, is also still available there.
