Broadband expansion in Chemnitz Northwest
Construction of an FTTB fibre optic network
In the period from October 2024 to March 2027, the previously underserved addresses in the north-west of Chemnitz (Röhrsdorf, Borna Süd, Schloßchemnitz Nord), which could not be included in the first expansion stage in 2019, will be connected to the FTTB fibre optic network. This will involve the construction of 29 network distributors and 29.3 km of broadband line to connect around 305 buildings.
There are also buildings along Längstrasse for which no fibre optic connection is planned for legal reasons. These are so-called reserve addresses. In order to connect these buildings at a later date, the necessary broadband infrastructure in the form of microduct bundles and microducts up to the property boundary will be provided as part of the construction project.
Coordinated services for the laying of infrastructure from eins/inetz are integrated into the construction project. This involves laying power cables and renewing the street lighting. Road renovation measures are also integrated into the construction project.
The civil engineering work for all surfaces will be carried out using open and closed construction methods. To this end, the roads in the various urban areas will be partially or fully closed.
The total construction costs of approx. 9.57 million euros are being subsidised by the federal government and the Free State of Saxony. The company Umwelt 2000 GmbH - Umweltbau und Recyclingtechnik, Leipzig, was commissioned to carry out the construction work.
