The trees were planted along Heinrich-Zille-Straße by the Parks Department in spring 2022.

2,181 Chemnitz residents took part in city cycling this year. A total of 337,978 kilometres were cycled during the three weeks of the campaign, saving 52 tonnes of CO2 compared to driving a car.

The City Cycling campaign created by Climate Alliance sensitises citizens to the use of bicycles in everyday life and brings the topics of bicycle use and bicycle traffic planning more strongly into the municipal parliaments. The importance of cycling for climate protection and quality of life as well as people's own mobility behaviour is to be brought to the fore. Since the start of the campaign in 2008, the number of participating municipalities has risen from 23 at the beginning to more than 2500 today.

The date for the next City Cycling campaign has already been set: 5 to 25 September 2023.
