Ascending Bird - Concert connects cities

Student exchange project between the twin cities of Chemnitz and Düsseldorf

Bei dem Bild handelt es sich um ein Werbeplakat für das Konzert "Ascending Birds" der Clara-Schumann-Players Düsseldorf und dem Jugendsinfonieorchester der Städtischen Musikschule Chemnitz. Am oberen Rand sind das Logo der Chemnitz Kulturhaustatdt Europas 2025, "C _the_Unseen" und die Webadresse zu Chemnitz 2025 zu sehen. Blickfang des Plakats ist der in mehreren Farben leuchtende Specht in der Mitte des Bildes. Er hat einen violett-türkis durchzogenen Kopf, sein Bauch ist in orang- weiß- und türkistönen gehalten und die Flügel sowie der Rumpf sind violet, türkis, schwarz und weiß. Die Schwanzfedern des Spechts sind in den Federfarben wellenähnlich mit durcheinander fliegenen Noten dargestellt. Der Hintergrund ist ein dunkles Türkis, das in Kopfnähe des Vogels heller wird. Rechts schräg unter dem Specht sind Datum, Uhrzeit, Ort und einige Künstler benannt, deren Werke gespielt werden. Den unteren Rand begrenzen die Logos der Förderungseinrichtungen der Veranstaltung.

On Sunday, 13 April at 11 a.m., the Clara Schumann Players Düsseldorf and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School will give a joint concert entitled "Ascending Bird" in the Markuskirche Chemnitz. The programme includes works by Sibelius, Beethoven and Colin Jacobsen. Admission is free.

The concert is part of the "CD-Exchange" music student exchange project sponsored by the Beisheim Foundation. The guest students from Düsseldorf will travel to Chemnitz on Thursday, 10 April and will be hosted by the Chemnitz music students. In June, the Chemnitz music students will then travel to Düsseldorf to perform the joint concert in the Düsseldorf Tonhalle.

The exchange project with 46 music students from Düsseldorf and 45 from Chemnitz is not only an ambitious project in musical terms, but also in terms of the social and cultural exchange between the young people from East and West Germany.
In particular, the planned visit to the Kaßberg prison as a place of learning and remembrance, followed by a workshop and discussions with contemporary witnesses, will be a highlight for all participants.

Nancy Gibson, Head of the Municipal Music School: "In addition to the valuable musical experience, we want to offer young people from the two twin cities in the far east and west of Germany the opportunity to exchange cultural experiences and ideas. This exchange project is intended to create a long-term connection between the young people of the twin cities of Chemnitz and Düsseldorf. Communication between the young people will be expanded through music."
