Aldermen wanted for the next term of office
Applications are possible until 24 March 2023
The City of Chemnitz is looking for around 820 people for the 2024 to 2028 term of office who would like to serve as lay judges for adult criminal law, youth lay judges for the juvenile criminal court or honorary judges for the administrative court. Applications can be submitted until 24 March 2023.
We are looking for applicants who live in Chemnitz (lay assessors and juvenile lay assessors) or within the court district (honorary judges) and will be between 25 and 69 years old on 1 January 2024. Applications are open to German nationals who have a sufficient command of the German language.
Legal knowledge is not required. However, applicants should have social skills, i.e. be able to judge the actions of a person in their social environment.
The lay assessors and honorary judges do not receive any remuneration for their work. However, in accordance with the German Judicial Remuneration and Compensation Act (JVEG), they receive compensation for any disadvantages they may have suffered as a result of being called to court.
The City Council and the Youth Welfare Committee propose twice as many candidates as the number of lay assessors or honorary judges required to the lay assessor selection committee at the local court and administrative court. In the second half of 2023, the lay assessor selection committees will select the principal and assistant lay assessors from these nominations.
