For many children and young people, smartphones, games consoles, tablets and the like are constant companions in everyday life - for playing, streaming, chatting or posting. But when does media use become an addiction? The lecture provides understandable insights into research and practice, highlights warning signs and presents the Res@t programme as a concrete approach to help.
The speaker, Dr Kerstin Paschke, is a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy and medical director of the addiction department at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf. She has been researching the topics of the evening for many years.

The art of listening - lecture and discussion

The ability to listen is a central condition for successful communication, especially in conflicting (political) debates. The lecture explores the question of what constitutes good listening. Why is listening sometimes difficult? What happens in the human brain? Can good listening be learnt? And last but not least: How does constructive dialogue succeed and how can listening promote conversation across controversies?
Prof Dr Margarete Imhof is Senior Professor of Psychology in Education at the University of Mainz and has been researching the topics of the evening for many decades.

Climate and digitalisation - social challenges and opportunities for shaping the future

In the webinar series "Climate and Us", Max Bömelburg from Konzeptwerk Neue Ökonomie and Bündnis Bits & Bäume will talk about the socio-ecological consequences of digitalisation. As an educational consultant working at the interface between the environment, digitalisation and social transformation, he is concerned with the question of how digital technologies can be designed to be sustainable and oriented towards the common good.
In his lecture, he will shed light on current developments such as the growing energy consumption of digital infrastructures, the use of artificial intelligence and the global impact of digital supply chains. It will become clear that digitalisation is not climate-friendly per se - it needs clear guidelines and political control in order to contribute to a socially just and ecologically sustainable future.
The series of events is part of the "vhs goes green 2" project and is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate as part of the National Climate Initiative.

In this basic workshop you will discover the fascinating world of analogue black and white photography. You will learn how to use your analogue camera correctly, how to load film and the basics of image composition. Bollywood dance - an attitude to life

Bollywood dance is at least as much fun as it looks in Indian films. You will combine steps, gestures and figures into a short dance routine that is easy to memorise to cheerful rhythms. Listening. The art of opening up to the world - online lecture

What does it mean to really listen, to question your own convictions, to expose yourself to someone else's world view? Especially in political debates, it is sometimes difficult to listen. Media scientist Prof Dr Bernhard Pörksen formulates this in his book "Zuhören. The art of opening up to the world", Prof Dr Bernhard Pörksen formulates a school of perception. He shows which mechanisms prevent people from listening - whether in private or in public. And he presents approaches and methods that enable a new openness, deeper understanding and empathetic listening. We invite you to come and talk to him about this.

In this course you will discover the culinary traditions of Vietnam. Vegetables are carved into various shapes and served. The variety of citrus plants cultivated throughout Italy is almost endless. And they all have their own origin, their own place and their own history. This lecture presents the diversity and culture of Italian citrus fruits.

Upcycling with style - create your own Christmas table decorations naturally

Give your Christmas festive table a very personal touch: design your own festive table decorations. Step by step, course instructor Anke Müller will guide you through the process of creating and arranging atmospheric decorations for a festive table using upcycling materials, a string of lights, cones and twigs and various small decorations. Finally, you will learn how to fold paper napkins to match your decorations.

Rice is the centrepiece of Thai food culture, accompanied by aromatic side dishes in small, bite-sized pieces. Thai cuisine is characterised by its balanced interplay of spiciness, sweetness, acidity, oil and salt.
During the course, participants will learn the basics of authentic, healthy cooking and discover the use of typical herbs, spices and fruits. Small groups (max. 4 people) will cook, taste and share knowledge together. With practical tips, exciting insights into Thailand's culinary traditions and a personalised atmosphere, cooking becomes an experience.

Syodou - Japanese calligraphy

Japanese calligraphy, "Syodou", is the art of "beautiful writing" with a writing brush. "Syodou was adopted from Chinese calligraphy around the sixth and seventh centuries. The characters were initially created for practical use. As the culture developed, so did the method of expressing characters aesthetically. Japanese calligraphy can also embellish life in a practical way, enrich the mind with this hobby and express individual beauty.

In keeping with the theme of the season, this evening invites you to calm down, find your inner centre and activate your own sources of strength with both calm and lively circle dances, physical exercises and short free dance sequences. The beneficial effect of symbolism, gestures, rhythm and music can have a healing and energising effect on body and soul.
The energies of the respective season and the cyclical circle of life can be sensed and experienced with impulses on the theme of the season. The major themes of life such as becoming new, growing, unfolding and letting go are echoed again and again in a variety of ways.
No dance experience is necessary to participate.
