Additional offer for driving licence exchange
On Wednesday, 7 February, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the driving licence authority of the City of Chemnitz is offering an additional afternoon for exchanging paper driving licences for EU driving licences. Appointments can be made immediately by dialling 115.
The offer is primarily aimed at all Chemnitz residents who are still in possession of a paper driving licence. The obligation to exchange the old paper driving licence currently applies to all those born between 1965 and 1970. They must have exchanged their paper driving licences by 19 January 2024.
In addition, those born between 1971 and 1980 (in accordance with the Driving Licence Ordinance, Annex 8e) already have the opportunity to exchange their paper driving licence. The deadline for these years ends on 19 January 2025, while driving licences issued between 1 January 1999 and 31 December 2001 must be exchanged by 19 January 2026.
It is also possible to send an email to fuehrerscheinumtausch(at)stadt-chemnitz.de. In addition to the request, the surname, first name, maiden name, date of birth, driving licence number and issuing authority should be stated. A confirmation with the exact appointment time and the respective appointment number will then be sent back by e-mail.
Background:
Due to the transposition of EU law into national law, all driving licences issued before 19 January 2013 must be exchanged for an EU card driving licence by 19 January 2033. Due to the large number of driving licences to be exchanged, the exchange of driving licences will be staggered.
