34 runners from four Chemnitz twin cities will take part in the 6th Chemnitz Marathon

The participants in the 6th Chemnitz Marathon on Saturday, 25 May, organised under the patronage of the Mayor of Chemnitz, will once again include athletes from Chemnitz's twin cities. On Saturday morning, 34 runners from four of Chemnitz's twin cities will be taking part in the race in the city centre: Nine runners from Lodz in Poland, 13 from Usti nad Labem in the Czech Republic, four from Mulhouse in France and eight from the North Rhine-Westphalian twin city of Düsseldorf.
While the Czech athletes from nearby Usti will arrive directly in Chemnitz on Saturday and take part in the marathon, the guests from Lodz, Mulhouse and Düsseldorf will once again be staying at the City Hostel Chemnitz "eins". They will arrive here, at the youth hostel on Getreidemarkt, on Friday. During their stay in Chemnitz, the athletes from the twin cities will be looked after by the Mayor's Office of the City of Chemnitz.

Information from the traffic authority on temporary full closures and one-way street regulations
The route of the Chemnitz Marathon on Saturday, 25 May runs from the city centre (Neumarkt/Markt am Rathaus area) via Bahnhofstraße, Annaberger Straße, Beckerstraße to the city park and back. Road closures: From 9.45 a.m., Bahnhofstraße in the area between Falkeplatz and Zschopauer Straße and Annaberger Straße in the landward direction in the area between Bahnhofstraße and Reichsstraße will be fully closed to traffic for the running event.Heinrich-Lorenz-Straße and Scheffelstraße will also be fully closed from 10 a.m. so that the athletes can also run unhindered here. One-way street regulation: From 8.45 a.m., Beckerstrasse will be converted into a one-way street (in the direction of Reichsstrasse) in the area between Reichsstrasse and Treffurthstrasse.
The running event will be secured by the Chemnitz Police Headquarters. Bus and train services will be operationally guaranteed. Visitors and residents of the city centre are requested to observe the traffic signs indicating the risk of traffic jams and recommended detours. We ask for your understanding that temporary obstructions during the sporting event cannot be ruled out.
Information on the running event
The Chemnitz Marathon starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, with the start and finish at Neumarkt near the town hall. The run leads through the city centre towards the city park and back; four laps must be completed for the marathon distance. After the opening ceremony at 10 a.m., the event starts at 10:10 a.m. with the Bambini run - all information and details of the schedule can be found online here: www.marathon-chemnitz.de - according to the organisers, the event is scheduled to end at 5 p.m.
The Chemnitz Marathon running event is a non-profit project of all Lions Clubs in Chemnitz and the Saxon Leo Clubs and is one of the highlights of the Chemnitz running calendar. According to information from the organisers, two regional organisations will be the recipients of the donations collected by the Chemnitz Marathon in 2013: the Dianino Foundation in Chemnitz ( www.dianino.de ) and Die Frauenhilfe Chemnitz e.V.(www.frauenhaus-chemnitz.de and www.ikos-chemnitz.de ).
