Photo project against domestic violence in Chemnitz

Equal opportunities officer calls for participation - registration now open

The City of Chemnitz's Equal Opportunities Officer, Franziska Herold, is looking for Chemnitz residents who would like to be photographed as models for the photo project and travelling exhibition "I see something you don't!". The aim of the project is to make the topic of domestic violence visible, break down prejudices and sensitise the public to take a closer look.

The exhibition will consist of large-format portrait photographs that address various forms of domestic violence and draw attention to the fact that victims of violence are often not immediately recognisable. Orange-coloured signs on the photographs are intended to symbolically indicate experiences of violence. The pictures will be supplemented by information on various forms of domestic violence as well as information on help centres in Chemnitz.

We are looking for people between the ages of 7 and 95 - regardless of gender, origin, religion, sexual identity or reality of life. People with and without a history of migration, people with physical or mental disabilities, queer and non-queer people as well as children, young people, adults and senior citizens are expressly welcome.
The diversity of Chemnitz's urban society is to be made visible in order to show that domestic violence can affect everyone.

The public participation is intended to create a special closeness between the exhibition and the viewer: The exhibition shows people from Chemnitz - people from the centre of society.

The exhibition will open on the International Day against Violence against Women on 25 November 2026 in the Stadtwirtschaft Chemnitz and will subsequently be presented at various public locations in Chemnitz.

The project is a collaboration between the municipal equal opportunities officer of the city of Chemnitz, Frauenhilfe Chemnitz e. V. and the Caritas project "Handschlag".
