Paths in the castle ponds are being renovated

From Monday, 2 March, the main path in the Schloßteich grounds on the eastern bank of the Schloßteich between Erich-Schmidt-Straße and Pleißenbach (outlet structure of the Schloßteich) and the small square around the Ernst Thälmann monument will be renovated.

Work will begin depending on the current weather conditions. It is expected to be completed by the end of July 2026.

The severely damaged asphalt surface will be replaced with a lime-stabilised path surface in keeping with the preservation order and edged with dark natural basalt stone. The access routes to the main path will also be renewed. Furthermore, a beaten path will be removed and additional plants will be planted along the main path near the steps to the Schloßbergpark/Miramar.

The costs total 305,000 euros. This measure is being subsidised with two-thirds funding from the federal government and the Free State of Saxony. The company Steinbach & Richter GbR from Lichtenau was commissioned with the construction work.

Further path renovations in the castle pond facilities are planned for 2027.
