Once again this year, selected listed buildings in the city will open their doors to the public. Under the theme ‘NetzWERKE: Monuments & Infrastructure’, this year’s focus is on movement, exchange and connections generated by monuments. Historic buildings can foster interaction between people, whilst structures that serve more than just a functional purpose confer a sense of identity and exceptional aesthetic appeal. Heritage Open Days offers an opportunity to network – with visitors, heritage conservationists and monument owners.
In Chemnitz, the following cultural monuments, amongst others, will be open to the public:
- Küchwald Open-Air Theatre
- Kaßberg Prison – A Place of Learning and Remembrance
- Railway Exhibition Centre
- Museum of Saxon Vehicles
- Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Mill
- ‘Blaues Haus’, Limbacher Straße 323 in Rottluff
- Former Municipal Mental Hospital
- Former Otto Uhle Glove Factory
- Schloßberg Museum
- Former ‘Royal Saxon State Educational Institution for the Blind and Mentally Disabled’
In addition, churches and cemeteries will be opening their doors, and the ‘Viadukt e. V.’ association is hosting, amongst other things, guided tours of the restored viaduct on Beckerstraße from 10 am.
