As part of the ‘Tacheles 2026’ Year of Jewish Culture, three Saxon photographers offer insights into everyday Jewish life, religious festivals, cultural events and remembrance. The photographs span from Görlitz to Zwickau and depict both contemporary community life and the traces of Jewish history in Saxony. The exhibition, presented in German and English, is complemented by a short film. It invites visitors to gain new insights, challenge preconceptions and engage with Jewish culture as a living part of Saxon society.

The exhibition can be viewed from 4 to 16 November during the town hall’s opening hours: Monday to Thursday from 8 am to 6 pm and Friday from 8 am to 4 pm.

The exhibition was organised by the Saxony Regional Association of Jewish Communities (K. d. ö. R.). It is supported by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony and co-funded by tax revenue in accordance with the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament.

The photographers

Stephan Dietze from Leipzig has close ties to the Ariowitsch-Haus Cultural and Community Centre in Leipzig and has long been documenting the centre’s work through his photography, as well as that of the Jewish Religious Community of Leipzig. He also produced the video about the Leipzig community featured in this exhibition.

Norbert Millauer from Dresden works as a professional photographer for press agencies and the media. Originally from Chemnitz, he has been documenting the Jewish Community of Dresden through his photographs for many years.

Matthias Schumann from Radebeul has carried out photographic projects in Eastern Europe, for example in Ukraine. During his visits, he also traced Jewish heritage in the country. He also works as a press photographer in Central Germany.
