We are looking for a:

ASSISTANT (M/F/D) FOR DEPARTMENT 5

SOCIAL AFFAIRS, YOUTH, HEALTH, CULTURE AND SPORT


Your responsibilities

As a Deputy (m/f/d), you will represent the city’s diverse interests both internally and externally within the department’s remit. This includes the strategic management and leadership of the department, as well as providing supportive, motivating and goal-oriented leadership to staff. Close and trusting cooperation with the Lord Mayor, the mayors of the various departments and the City Council is essential.

The department’s remit includes:

  • Social Services
  • Youth Welfare Office
  • Chemnitz Art Collections
  • Cultural Services
  • Sports Department
  • Department of Health and Prevention


We reserve the right to make changes to the departments.

We are seeking a strong leader with a sense of responsibility who will head the department with a high level of commitment and decisiveness. You will be professionally competent, goal-oriented, citizen-focused and cost-effective in your approach. Furthermore, through your commitment and innovative ideas, you will contribute to the forward-looking development of the city of Chemnitz.

What you need to bring

Your profile:

  • a university degree
  • several years’ management experience in a senior role within the public sector or a private company
  • several years’ proven professional experience in at least one area relevant to the business

Eligibility is open to anyone who meets the requirements for appointment as a temporary civil servant and possesses the aptitude, competence and expertise required for this post. Deputy Mayors are expected to take up residence in the city of Chemnitz. Appointment will be as a temporary civil servant for a term of seven years. Remuneration is in accordance with the applicable regulations of the Free State of Saxony for elected local government officials.
